The moment I teach for

That look when they realize I made that

One of my favorite moments as a teacher is seeing the look on someone's face when they suddenly realize, "I made that!"

It doesn't matter whether they're six or sixty-six. That little spark of pride and discovery is something pretty wonderful.

I've always believed that mistakes are often possibilities in disguise. Sometimes the moment you're most frustrated is the moment just before the magic happens.

And getting to share those moments with our students? That's why I love what we do.

A note from Jennifer

It started with a school that had no art

In 2005, my own children attended a school that had no visual arts program. I believed every child deserved the opportunity to discover the joy of creating, so I decided to do something about it.

I started an art program at one school. Then another. And another. Before long, we were bringing art to children at 14 schools across Chattanooga.

Today, Creative Art Place is our colorful little studio on East Brainerd Road, where children, homeschoolers, and grown-ups can explore their creativity, learn something new, make a little mess, and discover what they're capable of.

Kind words

What families say

“I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the Children's Art Place. What began as an after school program at my children's elementary school quickly became a place where I felt comfortable sending my kids to camp and kids night out.

After several years of participating in all that Children's Art Place has to offer, Ms. Courtney has become like family, not just a teacher to my kids. She has built up their confidence while exposing them to new kinds of art and techniques and artists they wouldn't otherwise know.

When I leave my children at the studio, I know they are well cared for, I know they will learn something, and I know they will have fun! That's rare to find and hard to beat!”

Mom of two artists, 13 and 8

“Our kids have done the after-school program and the summer camps at Creative Art Place, and both have been wonderful! Jennifer, Courtney, and the rest of the staff provide a warm and nurturing environment where students can use their hands and hearts to create whatever their imaginations can dream up!”

“I've had the absolute pleasure of throwing my daughter a birthday party she wanted (I certainly did not want any party lol). I struggle with anxiety and "being in charge" was not for me that day! Courtney went above and beyond to ensure that I, (and of course all the guests) we're happy and things ran smoothly.”
