What we paint with

We work in watercolor, acrylic and pastel, and we love mixing them. Every painter learns how each medium behaves before being asked to make it behave.

  • Wet on wet and wet on dry watercolor
  • Tight, careful painting
  • Loose abstract painting
  • Soft pastels and oil pastels
  • Mixed media, where paint meets collage and texture

Painting classes for kids

Our kids art classes meet for one hour, once a week, all year. Most artists are 5 to 12, and tuition is $120 a month.

We study artists and techniques, then make the idea our own. Watercolor toucans, galaxy paintings and bold abstract pieces all start at the same table.

Painting classes for adults

New to painting, or coming back to it after years away? Our grown-up classes are relaxed and no experience is necessary.

  • Creative Mornings: Thursdays, 10:00 to 11:00 am
  • Creative Crafternoons: Tuesdays, 12:00 to 2:00 pm
  • $135 a month, every supply provided

Prefer one to one?

Private art lessons are built around exactly what you want to paint. One hour a week, one teacher, $180 a month, for any age from two to adult.

You keep the same day and teacher each week, so every lesson picks up where the last one stopped.

Taught by working artists

Our teachers paint for themselves, too. Courtney Hughes loves landscapes in oils and acrylics. Ella Hodges has a B.F.A. from UTC and calls herself 1000% devoted to oil paint.

Jennifer Strickler is a mixed-media artist with a B.F.A. from Washington University, and she has taught Chattanooga families for 21 years.

Miss a week of kids classes? Pop into another class that week. Studio classes run all year, so you can start whenever you're ready.

Painting with a group
